Warona
The CHR, National Research Foundation, the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences and RMB is proud to announce ‘Warona’. Between 31st July and 23rd August 2018, this new work of puppet theatre by uKwanda Puppetry Collective will be touring high schools and township theatres around Cape Town. The story explores questions of street justice, and community responses to drug culture in the Western Cape. As children are placed under threat, so families seek to create alternative pathways for the next generation.
The play is made possible with the generous support of the National Research Foundation, the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Science (NIHSS), the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and a grant from Rand Merchant Bank. Ukwanda is mentored by the Handspring Puppet Company through the CHR’s Laboratory of Kinetic Objects.
The work is directed by Thando Doni, and features the following actors and puppeteers:
