Taking The Walk
The CHR is pleased to announce the honouring of the achievements of Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler, founders of Handspring Puppet Company, who will receive honorary doctorates from the University of Toronto, the Jackman Humanities Institute, in June 2022.
Handspring Puppet Company was founded in 1981 and has grown under the leadership of Artistic Director Adrian Kohler and Executive Producer Basil Jones for 30 years. In 2020, they came out of retirement to help create and build Little Amal, a giant puppet that walked from Syria to London through over 70 cities, towns and villages across Europe to draw attention to the experience of refugee children. The JHI has partnered extensively with Handspring through the Mellon-funded research project, Aesthetic Education: A South-North Dialogue.
