Coalescing around the question of the “after” of coloniality, this years Winter School investigated what is at stake in different and differing conceptual framings of “the after”. A number of critiques have pointed to the temporal break implied by the prefix “post” in terms like the “postapartheid” and the “postcolonial”. Sometimes the critiques have parsed differences in understandings of the “post” through inserting a hyphen: “post-apartheid”. In the Winter School and through our reading programme, we wish to read into the different itineraries of afterness: as a question of time, rupture and continuity, of path or direction, as a sense of textuality, a mode of subjectivity and subjectivation, and of the connections between the political and the aesthetic, as well as the unconscious.
