Fellow: Philosophy Department, MA

I am an honours student in the Philosophy department at The University of the Western Cape. I am also a fellow of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program which,  is the centrepiece of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s initiatives to increase diversity in the faculty ranks of institutions of higher learning. My research interest is to explore the question of the nature of African epistemology. Epistemology as a discipline should not exclude thoughts and systems of other people and cultures. There is value and something to be learned from African oral traditions as a plausible new method in epistemology. Indigenous epistemology may bring process in the discipline of epistemology and provide opportunities to explore how different social cultural context have affected ideas of people.
