Roxanne Gouws

Fellow: Undergraduate Degree in English, Philosophy and History

My name is Roxanne Gouws, I am one of the 2017 Centre for Humanities Research (CHR), Andrew Mellon Postgraduate Honours Fellows. In 2016 I completed my Undergraduate Degree in English, Philosophy and English through the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and was afforded the opportunity to complete my Honours research in forensic History in 2017. As part of my fellowship, I plan on focusing my research interest on themes surrounding the missing voices of marginalised communities and specifically women of the mining locations in South Africa. I would like to get to an understanding of why their stories have yet to be told and hope to unpack how silencing subaltern victims of structural and political violence in South Africa has influenced the way post-apartheid South Africa is seen.

In 2016 I completed my Undergraduate Degree in English literature, Philosophy and History through the University of the Western Cape (UWC), and was afforded the opportunity to complete my Honours research in forensic History in 2017.
